Community Police activity to be strengthen

Speakers a joint meeting have stressed for bridging of the police and people on mutual trust to strengthen community policing activities for curbing social crimes and preventing corruption to improve law and order.

The District Community Policing Coordination Committee with the assistance of RDRS Bangladesh, a reputed NGO, organised the meeting at the hall room Haridebpur High School under Haridebpur union in Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The NGO assisted in arranging the meeting under its Justice Reform and Corruption Prevention (JRCP) Project being implemented with German Development Cooperation (GIZ) funding under assistance of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The main objective of meeting was to further strengthen community policing activities through forming and reforming the union and ward level community policing committees in three unions of Haridebpur, Chandanpat and Mominur under Sadar upazila.

With Member-secretary of District Community Policing Coordination Committee Shushanto Bhowmick in the chair, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana Abdul Kader Zilani attended the meeting as the chief guest.

OC (Investigation) of Kotwali Thana Abdul Aziz, Community Policing Officer of Kotwali Thana Sub-inspector Ferdous Wahid District manager of JRCP Project Ershad M Rasel and its Upazila Manager Tahmina Akhter addressed as the special guests.

More than 100 members of the union and ward level community policing committees of these three unions, civil society members and public representatives participated in the joint meeting and took part in the open discussion.

In their speeches, the speakers stressed for strengthening organisational activities of community policing at the union and ward levels to ensure peace, prevent corruption, drug abuse, child marriage, dowry, repression and violence against women in society.

The narrated the goals, objectives and activities of the community  policing in maintaining law and order as well as preventing all sorts curses superstitions, corruptions and settling the petty social crimes locally.

They also put importance on restructuring the community policing committees at the ward, union, upazila and district levels ensuring involvement of the honest, sincere and spontaneously working citizens to revive the past dynamism in its activities.

The chief guest put emphasis on bridging of the police and common people on mutual trust and confidence for further strengthening community policing activities at all levels to curb all sorts of social crimes in improving law and order.
