Competent people for good governance if elected: Khaleda

BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia on Wednesday said that the present government was not only illegal but also s failure in all respects. Because of the posting of incompitent people all state-owned banks have been finished while there was widespread corruption in all sectors including education and health.
Addressing a huge public meeting of the BNP-led 20-pary alliance at the Kishoreganj Gurudayal College ground the former Prime Minister said there was no elected government in the country now. The people did not vote in the January 05 elections when dogs were seen sitting in front if polling stations. Not only the government but also the present Parliament was illegal. They have not been elected by the people, she said.Expressing her determination of establish good governance in the country Khaleda Zia said ‘we will bring change’ form government with competent and efficient people for good governance. She said she had no more desire to be in power since she had been elected Prime MInister thrice. I want to remain with the people and want to continue to work for prople’s progress, and turn Bangladesh into a prosperous country.
In an eupheric tone she said, this country has seen not only the birth of Mir Zafar, but also Siraj ud Daulah. ‘We carry the blood of Isha Khan. We will drive away Mir Zafars and establish a government of the people, she said.
The rally was part of Khaleda Zia’s mass contact programmes as preparatory to loaunching a movement for fresh elections under a neutral administration.
Khaleda Zia said although the people were passing their days in hardships, the state of the Awami League was good. They have established the reign of plunder everywhere and looted thousands of crores of Takas frpm different banks.
Terming the government as one of killers Begun Zia said the very powerful Chhatra League and Juba League did not obey the Police. They obey none. Even after the murder of Biswajit the killers are beyond anybody’s reach. Describing the sad plight of Biswajit, Begum Zia said the boy had told the attackers he did not do politics but was a poor Hindu tailor and had nothing to do with hartal. But they did not stop killing him. Killing and abduction like this is continuing across Bangladesh, she said.
In her criticism of the Anti-Corruption Commission she said that the anti-graft ody had now turned into commission of relieiving people of corruption charges by giving clean chits to corrupt ones. They are harbouring corrupt people. They have no right to relieve anybody of charges, she observed.
Because of corruption there has been no investment in the country. Foreign investers are shying away. The industries sector is in a pitiable state as a result, she said. The garment sector which was the world’s second largest has now slided to the fourth position.
She said because of his old age and occasional unguraded comments, some true information about the state of the government come to the publis domain.
The education system has been destroyed by promoting leakage of question papers and greater percentages of pass in examinations. The practice of copying stopped in the past have returned to examinations halls, she said adding that the future of the country is being jeopardised by destroying the education system.
Repeating her allegation against the Rapid Action Battalion and the Police of killing young people instead of checking crime and criminals, Khaleda zia called upon foreign countries not to sell arms ammunition and not to peovide training to them. Who will run the country in future if young people are killed like this, she asked
Referring to a statement of the Finance Minister she said that people belonging to the government have plundered Taka 20,000 of bank money and have destroyed the economy. The government not only failed to check corruption, but instead increased corruption.
She said that during the tenure of the present government people do not ger medicines from the Upazila Health Complexes. Doctors do not go there, she said.
The BNP chief told the meeting that she had been asked by the moyeenuddin-Fakhruddin regime to leave the country on the promise of doing no harm to her. But she preferred to stay in Bangladesh becuase she did not commit any wrong.
The huge publlic meeting, presided over by Md. Shariful Islam, acting President of the Kishoreganj district unit of BNP, was addressed by central leaders of the BNP and the 20-party alliance. – GreenWatch Dhaka Report
