Confrontational politics creates serious crisis: Nagorik Oikya

Some political leaders, lawyers and academics at a discussion meeting on Friday said that the country was facing serous political crisis for the confrontational policies of the two major political parties – the Awami League and the BNP.They called upon the people to reject the two major political parties in the next general elections.
Dhaka City (South) Unit of the Nagorik Oikya organised the pre-iftar discussion meeting at its central office at Topkhana Road.
Convener of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the two major political parties had failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
Moreover, he said, the two parties had created uncertainties in the politics of the country, as it was not clear that next general elections would be held on time.
Nagarik Oikya, the citizens’ platform is taking preparations to give nominations in all 300 seat in the next general elections, Manna said.
He said the two parties did not believe each other even they had no confidences of the people of the country.
Eminent lawyer Shahdeen Malik said that the two major parties must reach in a consensus under which system the next general election would be held.
The country would face serious consequences if they failed to reach the consensus immediately, he added.
Chaired by convener of the Dhaka City South, Abu Bakar Siddiq, Dhaka University teacher Asif Nazrul, Shahidullah Kaiser, Badhan Chowdhury and Iftekher Ahmed Babu spoke at the programme. – Staff Reporter
