Polls under partisan govt to provoke mass upsurge: Moudud

BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Friday warned that they will oust the government through a mass upsurge if it tries to hold the next polls under a partisan government.“A mass upsurge will take place if the government tries to arrange the election under a partisan administration, and the regime won’t be able to face it,” he said.
Moudud made the remarks while addressing a discussion, titled ‘Restoration of the caretaker government is the only way to overcome the current crisis’ arranged by Jatiya Nagorik Forum at the Jatiya Press Club.
The BNP leader alleged that Awami League wants to return to power through evil-designs but people will not let them materilise their dream.
Terming the Election Commission a government subservient institution, Moudud said the commission through an intelligence agency is trying to establish a controversial political party to weaken BNP.
Moudud said this commission will have to be recast before the general election.
He criticised Prime Minister’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy for his claim that Awami League will return to power through the next general election as he has the information, and said his remarks indicate that they have a blueprint to cling to power.
“Awami League has no trust in people’s votes. This party can do anything. But we want to clearly state that no stage-managed election will be allowed to hold in the country. People through the elections to five city corporations have already sent out a message that they want a change in the regime.”
Addressing an Iftar party arranged by Awami Jubo League at Bangabandhu Avenue in on Tuesday, Joy said, “I’ve information Awami League will come back to power… I’m here to face BNP’s false propaganda.”
Moudud said they will establish good governance and the rule of law putting an end to the politics of vengeance. – UNB
