The construction work of the much-awaited Tentulia Upazila Muktijoddha Complex began here on Sunday.Local parliament member Nazmul Haque Pradhan laid the foundation stone of the complex. Liberation War Affairs Ministry has been implementing the project at a cost of Taka 2.01 crore through the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED). Addressing the function, Nazmul Haque Pradhan said the freedom fighters should work unitedly with the spirit of the War of Liberation for building a non-communal modern Bangladesh. Pradhan, a former student leader, said the Jamaat-Shibir clique has still been hatching conspiracies against the country. He urged the pro-liberation forces to remain alert against the anti-liberation elements. With Tentulia Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) Mohammad Moniruzzman in the chair, a large number of freedom fighters, government officials, leaders of Upazila Mukktijoddha Sangshad and different political parties, civil society members,
professionals and elite, among others, were present.Tentulia upazila chairman Rezaul Karim Shahin, valiant FFs Kazi Habibar Rahman, Kazi Mahbubur Rahman, Deputy Commander of Upazila Muktijoddha Sangshad Shaikhul Islam, former Panchagarh District Muktijoddha Commander SM Liyakat Ali, war-wounded FF Jahirul Islam, district JSD President Abdul Mazid Babul and Upazila Awami League President Yasin Ali Mandal also spoke on the occasion.Later, the newly elected lawmaker from Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal (JSD) was accorded a reception there. Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said the present government led by Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina has been ensuring welfare of the freedom fighters, doing everything better for them and also constructing houses for five distressed FFs in every upazila throughout the country. “The FFs can never support the autocratic military rulers,”
Nazmul said and called upon BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to leave militancy and religion-traders to join the democratic marathon for democracy for the welfare of the nation. Addressing the ceremony, the FFs demanded immediate completion of the trial of war criminals and vowed for not returning homes until all war criminals are executed for the crimes they committed against humanity in 1971. -BSS, Tentulia, Panchagarh
