The cooperative microcredit has become effective in bringing self-reliance to 750
rehabilitated destitute river-eroded families living in twelve barrack houses built under
the government’s Asrayan Prokalpo in Gangachara upazila.
Side by side achieving self-reliance, beneficiary families have set up a unique example in
cent percent cooperative microcredit loan payments when commoners are failing to do so
getting microcredit with high interest rate from other institutions or NGOs.
They have regained life anew with home, address, livelihoods and dream of brighter
future for their children following the comprehensive social safety-net programmes being
implemented for them by the present government.
Talking to BSS, rehabilitated inhabitants at Chengmari Ashrayan Prokalpo-1 and Purbo
Kochua-1 Asrayan Prokalpo said they have changed life after getting training, input and
revolving interest-free government microcredit after leading uncertain life for a long.

“Now, we have assets and properties worth about Taka 1.50 lakh to 2.50 lakh and leading
solvent life with children as we are earning profits through utilising the interest-free
microcredit provided by the Upazila Cooperative Office,” the happy couples said.
