Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-3 on Monday asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to withdraw the arrest warrant in the Money Laundering case against BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tareque Rahman and businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun, as Tareque was acquitted in the case.In the withdrawal process an order of the court was sent to the Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bench Clerk Ariful Islam of the court told this correspondent.
Earlier, an order of arrest against Tareque Rahman was sent through international agency, the Interpole.
Besides, the order was also sent to Banani and Gulshan Police Stations in the capital through the Deputy Commissioner of Police Prosecution.
Tareque’s lawyer Sanaullah Miah has told the journalists that this is the usual process. Whenever, any court acquits any accused, the pending warrant against the concerned accused has to be withdrawn. However, in this it was not done earlier, as the concerned judge Md Motahar Hossain was on leave so long and he joined just today (Monday).
On November 19, the court acquitted Tareque Rahman, as the charge against him was not proved, while the other accused in the case Giasuddin Al Mamun was convicted. – Court Correspondent
