A Dhaka court on Wednesday deferred the hearing in the case filed against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of Awami League MP Pinu Khan to November 11, as the prosecution did not produce the accused to the court on the occasion.

Judge Shamsun Nahar of Dhaka’s Second Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court passed the order in response to a petition of the prosecution seeking time. Earlier, on August 26, the court fixed September 23 for hearing on charge framing against Rony.

Rony is a son of Pinu Khan, who has been made an MP for a reserved seat of the Parliament. She is also the General Secretary (In-charge) of the Women Awami League.

On April 13, Rony, said to be a drug addict, allegedly opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people injured with bullets. Of them rickshaw-puller succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 15 while the other, the Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yeaqub died at hospital on April 23.

On April 15, a case was filed with Ramna Police Station against some unidentified people in this connection. However, on June 1, law enforcers arrested Rony in the case.

Later, on July 21, the Detective Branch of Police submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court.
