BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to exchange her Eid greetings with people in a London hotel on Thursday, according to a source in the UK.
This will be her first Eid greetings programme abroad.
The former premier, now visiting London, will exchange her Eid greetings with different section of expatriate Bangladeshis including civil society people, politicians, journalists and community people, said the source.
According to the source the programme will be held at a hotel located in Central London but the name of the hotel was not disclosed.
Sources said around 1,000 expatriate Bangladeshis may attend the function.
In another development, the BNP chairperson, who went to London for her health check up and eye treatment, on Tuesday had an appointment with a doctor in Central London.
Her elder son Tarique Rahman drove her to the doctor. Tarique’s wife Dr Zobaida Rahman accompanied her.
Meanwhile, in a press statement Khaleda Zia yesterday said there is no safety and security of the people and their property as the country is passing through a severe anarchic situation.
“Under the circumstances, it may not be possible for all to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha in a befitting manner,” she said.
The statement, signed by party’s spokesperson Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon, alleged that sufferings of people know no bounds due to price hike of essential commodities.
Khaleda said the crisis of water, fuel, gas and electricity have also created unbearable situation in people’s life.
She urged country’s all affluent and capable persons to extend their hands to the distressed and helpless people.
The former premier expressed Eid greetings to all and prayed for the happiness, peace and prosperity in their lives.
Khaleda left Dhaka on September 15 for UK for treatment in her eyes and knees and to celebrate the Eid with all of her family members after a long.
