Twenty three accused in two cases in connection with sensational Narayanganj seven-murder were produced in a Narayanganj Court on Monday. The court was scheduled to record statements of witnesses.
But, newsmen were driven out of the courtroom before Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Syed Enayet Hossain started recording deposition around 10:00am.
Prime accused of the cases, Tareq Sayed Mohammad, Arifur Rahman, MM Rana and 20 others were produced before the court around 9:00am.
Before the trial started, public prosecutor Wazed Ali Khokon made an announcement that none, other than plaintiffs, defendants and lawyers, will be allowed to stay in the courtroom.
The court was earlier scheduled on 25 February to record the deposition of witnesses, but it was deferred as police could not produce Tareq Sayed Mohammad on the day.
Seven persons including Narayanganj City Corporation Councillor Nazrul Islam, his four aides, senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver were abducted almost simultanously on 27 April last year after they left the Narayanganj court area in two cars.
Six bodies, including that of Nazrul and Chandan, were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river three days later, and another was found the following day.
On 4 May, Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul Islam complained that some Rab men had abducted and murdered the Narayanganj city councillor in exchange for Tk 6 crore.
He claimed that some workers saw Rab men abducting Nazrul near Shibu Market in Narayanganj on 27 April.
The government on 6 May dismissed three RAB officials-Tareq Sayed Mohammad, Arifur Rahman and MM Rana who were attached to Rab 11-from the services for their alleged involvement in the abduction and killing of seven people. – News Desk
