BNP chairman, sr vice-chairman election March 19

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced the schedule for the election of its chirman and senior vice chairman on 19 March at the party council.
Election commissioner for the election to the two topmost posts of the party Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar announced the election schedule at a media briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office on Monday.

According to the schedule, aspiring candidates are to collect nomination papers from the party office from 10:00am to 4:00pm from 2 March.
The nomination papers will have to be submitted on 4 March. Returning officer Nazrul Islam Khan will scrutinise the nomination papers on 5 March.
The candidates will be able to withdraw their candidature on 6 March.
Jamiruddin Sircar told the media briefing that the candidates for the two posts must be 30 years old or above and, of course, active members of the party.
The incumbent chairperson of the party is Khaleda Zia, former prime minister, and her son Tarique Rahman is the incumbent senior vice chairman.
Party insiders think that Khaleda and Tarique will be elected unopposed as, they hope, none may contest the elections to the two topmost posts against them.
The party is going to hold its national council on 19 March after six years. The party constitution stipulates that party’s council session should be held in every three years. – News Desk
