Create new world to make impossible possible: Yunus

Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has called upon the young generation to put in their best efforts to create a new world with grand purposes using the power of technology.“Get ready to make all the impossible possible. You can create a new world which no other generation could do,” he said while delivering his convocation speech at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), UK on Friday.
During the GCU’s Graduation Ceremony held on 4-5 July 2013 at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Yunus, also the Chancellor of the University, capped 2,200 students, according to a message received here on Sunday.
In his speech, Yunus said, “The graduation ceremony is one of the most memorable events in anybody’s life. This comes at the end of a long journey of academic and social preparations. This ceremony tells you that you‘re now prepared to begin your life to achieve your life purpose.”
Describing the graduates as the most powerful young generation in human history, he said, “You’re powerful because you’ve the most amazing technology at your command which no other generation could even dream of. Make sure you are different than all other generations. Make sure you use that power. If you don’t, it’ll all be wasted away. Make sure you use it for grand purposes, not squander it away for silly purposes.”
The university also recognised model, actress and social entrepreneur Lily Cole and Olympic athlete Katherine Grainger with honorary doctorates.
Lily Cole was recognised for her outstanding contribution to humanitarian and environmental causes. Katherine was awarded in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of sports and honor her public service and work with charity.
In addition, games designer Richard Lemarchand awarded with Degree of Doctor of Technology during the ceremony. Actress Phyllida Law, Professor Anne Glover, Scientific Advisor to EU President and leader of fashion industry Brian Duffy were also among the leading personalities awarded honorary doctorate in the ceremony.
Yunus congratulated the graduates and their parents who were present to witness the great moment in the lives of their sons and daughters.
