Provide registration to NDP if it is operational: HC

The High Court on Sunday asked the Election Commission (EC) to provide registration to National Democratic Party (NDP) within one month if the party is operational now. An HC bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice AKM Jahirul Haque passed the order after the final hearing of a rule issued earlier in this regard.
Advocate Mohammad Afzal Hossain appeared for the petitioner while Dr Shahdeen Malik represented the EC.
Afzal said the EC did not provide registration to the NDP in 2008 claiming Salauddin Quader Chowdhury as its secretary general.
Later, party president Khandaker Golam Murtoza filed a writ petition with the High Court following which it issued a rule.
The petitioner’s lawyer also said SQ Chowdhury left the party in 1996 to join BNP and now Alamgir Hossain is the NDP secretary general. The High Court on Sunday asked the Election Commission (EC) to provide registration to National Democratic Party (NDP) within one month if the party is operational now.
