Dhaka – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Wednesday granted interim bail to cricketer Arafat Sunny in a dowry case filed against him by Nasrin Sultana, who claims to be Sunny’s wife.Magistrate Md Nur Nabi of the court passed the order after Sunny surrendered to the court following a court order and sought bail.
Nasrin Sultana, filed another case under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, against Sunny and his mother Nargis Akhter with the CMM Court of Dhaka on the charge of claiming Tk 20 lakh as dowry on January 23.
After recording the statement of Nasrin, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Raihanul Islam exempted Sunny’s mother Nargis Akter from the charges and asked Sunny to appear before the court on 5 April.
According to the case statement, Arafat Sunny got married to Nasrin Sultana on December 4, 2014 with an endowment of Tk 0.51 million and since then they used to live at the house of Nasrin’s sister in Katasur area as a couple.
On 29 July 2015, Sunny and his mother demanded Tk 2 million as dowry to Nasrin and asked her to bring the money from her father. As Nasrin refused to bring the money Sunny left her, she claimed.
Besides, she alleged, Sunny threatened her to publish their personal photographs, if she fails to provide the dower money on December 23, last year and two days’ after, on December 25, Nasrin made a general diary (GD) with the local police station on December 25, last year. – Special Correspondent
