Dhaka – The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Wednesday included the review petitions, filed by the government and convicted war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee, against its verdict in the case filed against Sayedee for his war crimes, in its cause list.The review petitions have been kept as item No 138 of the cause list for hearing by the appeal bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha. Earlier, on April 3, the Supreme Court included the review petition in its cause list.
Sayedee was given the death penalty on two counts of crimes against humanity in 2013 by the International War Crimes Tribunal. The convict appealed against the death sentence in the Supreme Court and it was commuted to imprisonment until prison.
The Jamaat-e- Islami leader appealed against the tribunal’s verdict seeking acquittal while the state pleaded for capital punishment on the six other proven charges. – Special Correspondent
