Ctg transport worker leader Nurul rescued

Two days after he was kidnapped by some miscreants from the city’s Bandartilla area, transport worker leader Nurul Islam was rescued from Mirersarai upazila of the district on Friday night.

Assistant police super of District Special Branch (DSB) Robiul Islam said a team of Jorarganj Police Station in the upazila rescued Nurul Islam from Baroiharhat bus stand around 8:15pm.

Some miscreants identifying them as law enforcers picked up Nurul Islam, general secretary of City Human-hauler Workers’ Association, from Bandartilla under EPZ Police Station on Wednesday night when he was returning home.

Later, Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation enforced an indefinite transport strike in greater Chittagong from 6pm on Thursday demanding that the transport worker leader be rescued unhurt.

Later on Thursday night, it, however, postponed the strike until 4pm on Friday following assurance from the administration to rescue Nurul Islam.
