Dacoits abduct 14 fishermen from Meghna estuary

A gang of armed pirates early Saturday abducted 14 fishermen with a
fishing trawler on Meghna River estuary near Char Patiyala under Monpura upazila of Bhola district.
Amzad Hossain, fishing merchant at Samraj fishing port under Charfession upazila of
Bhola, said the pirates also looted fish and nets worth Tk. 2 lakhs
and Manowar, Selim, Hasem Majhi were named among the abducted victims.
The victims were from Char Madras, Mohammadpur, Aminabad villages of
Charfession and till this report abductor did not contact with anyone, Amzad said.
Azizul Islam, officer in charge of Monpura police station, said they
heard about the incident and preparing to operate rescue operation.
Lieutenant Hasan, operation officer of Coast Guard south zone of
Bhola, said they heard about the incident on Saturday noon and asked Coast Guard of Hatiya station to move for rescuing the fishermen.
It may be recalled that 19 fishermen with 4 fishing trawlers were abducted by pirates on
June 16 from the Meghna estuary and later freed on June 17 after realising Tk. 5 lakhs as
ransom.
