Daily Observer editor Iqbal Sobhan Chy sued

Dhaka – Two cases were filed on Tuesday against Prime Minister’s Media Adviser and the Daily Observer Editor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury for publishing a report in his daily. Of the two cases filed on Tuesday by Rajshahi-4 constituency MP Enamul Haque, one was lodged with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansaray of Dhaka CMM Court on the charge defamation while the other case was filed with the court of Judge Monowara Begum, the fifth Joint District Judge of Dhaka for a compensation of Tk 100 crore.
According to the case statement, a news item was published in ‘The Daily Observer’ on January 23 under the headline ‘Police await PM’s order to crack down on drug lords which tarnished the complainant’s reputation.
The Magistrate of the CMM Court decided to pass order in the case filed in connection with thecharge of defamation on February 2, while the other court decided to hear on February 7, whether the case lodged with his court would be taken into cognizance or not.
Earlier, on Sunday, Awami League lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari, elected from Feni- 2 constituency filed a Tk 10 crore defamation case against Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury with a court of Feni for publishing another defamatory report.
