Dashiarchhara & Basposai Vitorkuti observed victory day as Bangladeshi

Kurigram-After implementing the Land Boundary Agreement between India and Bangladesh, people of the now-defunct Indian enclaves Dashiarchhara and Basposai Vitorkuti in Kurigram and Lalmonirhat districts freely observed the 45th victory day of Bangladesh with much enthusiasm yesterday.Dashiarchhara people began programme of the victory day through placing flower-wreath in the new-made memorial in the Kalirhat Bazar area at 9:00 am of the day (Dec.16).

Different educational institutions and organisations of Dashiarchhara attended near the memorial with their separate colourful rally.

At first they held prayer for depredated soul of the freedom fighters there and discussion meeting later on.

Altaf Hossain, President of Dashiarchhara unit of former India-Bangladesh enclave exchange co-ordination committee, said, “The first time we are enjoying the test of the independence through observing the 45th victory day of Bangladesh.

Besides, the district administration and eight upazila administrations separately observed the 45th victory day in their headquarter areas with much enthusiasm where all walk of lives were included there.

The residents of Basposai Vitorkuti enclave in Lalmonirhat district gathered at Eid ga premise on morning and hosted national flag after singing national anthem.

As there was no memorial at the enclave they demanded to build memorial for the residents. They gave floral wreath at a temporary place.

Advocate Motiar Rahaman Administrator of Lalmonirhat zila parishad attended the program as chief guest. He assured the peoples to build a memorial in former enclave Vitorkuti before international mother language day. He sanctioned one taka for memorial. Among social worker and noted poet Beauty Rahaman and local peoples, students and children were took part in the program.

Najrul Islam a resident of 119 former Indian enclaves in patgram upozila of the district told that this is the first time we celebrated the Independence Day as a citizen of a country. We have passed nearly seven decades without any state and could not enjoy the taste of freedom. They have taken various programs to mark the day. On Thursday they arranged sports and drawing competition for the children and discussion program on evening.
