The 12th death anniversary of noted artist Kazi Anowar Hossain, who was very well known for his classical portrayal of rural Bangla, was observed in a befitting manner on Friday.
Marking the day, a Doa and Milad Mahfil was arranged after Asr prayers at his Kazibari residence in Amirabad area and different mosques in Madaripurtown where the painter grew up, a press release said here.
His son Kazi Ashiqun Hossain Apu arranged the doa mahfils.
The 2016 posthumously Ekushey Padak winning artist was born on January 01, 1941 in Kurpala village under Kotalipara thana of Gopalganj district of present Bangladesh.
Although born in Gopalganj district, he grew up in Madaripur because of his father’s service.
While studying in secondary school, he started painting. After completing his graduation in 1964 from the then Dhaka Art School, now Faculty of Fine Arts of Dhaka University, Hossain concentrated entirely on painting.
At the beginning of his career, Hossain painted the pictures of the rural villages of Bangla and later he liked to paint miniature pictures. His drawings were displayed in over 22 solo and joint exhibitions at home and abroad. During the devastating floods in 1988, he captured pictures on the floods and sold those to donate the money among the flood-hit people.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had gifted a portrait of a boat drawn by Hossain to Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Hossain had created more than 2,000 pieces of his paintings. His artworks are kept at the National Museum, National Art Gallery, Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and different art galleries in the country.
On February 8 in 2007, the noted artist passed away at the age of 66.
