ministry and the locals for all the supports and help extended in the best possible way to look after the Indian wild elephant though it
finally died.“We’re really grateful…we can’t expect anything more. We’re sorry that the elephant died,” the High Commissioner told reporters after his meeting with Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque at the latter’s office,UNB News Agency Reported.Proving all the efforts of the rescue team to keep it alive abortive,the Indian stray elephant, ‘Bangabahadur’, which entered the
Bangladesh territory floating with currents of floodwater about one and a half months ago died at Koyra village in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur on Tuesday.Wildlife inspector Asim Mallik said the elephant died failing to withstand excessive temperature, which was measured at 101 degrees Celsius on the previous day.Its origins were not known but the ýwildlife team from ýIndia that came to rescue it opined that given his complete lack of familiarity with humans, the elephant was likely to be from ýKaziranga or even ýArunachal Pradesh.“This means she floated down an incredible 1,500 kms! Over the last month and a half, she has been steadily heading north over five districts of Bangladesh towards India,” said the High Commissioner earlier.Responding to a question, Shringla said during the meeting they touched upon all the ongoing bilateral issues and there is nothing significant to report to the media.The Indian side has already invited Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to attend the annual Summit of BRICS to be held in Goa, India on October
15-16.Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was also supposed to visit Dhaka before PM’s visit to India but nothing is finalised yet, foreign ministry sources said.
