Train movement on the two routes—Dhaka-Chittagong and
Dhaka-Sylhet—resumed on Monday morning after a halt of nearly three
hours. The rail services were restored around 8:30am, Comilla railway office
sources said.
Sources said a Chittagong-bound ‘two down mail train’ from Dhaka broke
down near Rasulpur in Burichong upazila around 5:30am as an instrument
of its engine developed fault, snapping rail communications between
the capital and the two districts. However, no causality was reported.
Schedules of the Dhaka-bound ‘Turna Nishita Express’ train from
Chittagong and Sylhet-bound ‘Udayaon Express’ from Chittagong were
cancelled.
Later, train movement on the routes resumed at about 8;30 am as a
relief train from Akhaura of Brahmanbaria district rushed to the spot
and salvaged the train. -UNB, Comilla
