Dhaka – Bangladesh has described its GFMD chairmanship as a success, saying Dhaka has been enthralled by the presence of members of 130 countries, over 200 members of international civil societies and representatives from 30 organisations.
“It’s your success and achievement in making the migration voice of the GFMD much elevated and stronger- in particular the emerging debate on the Global Compact,” said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Monday. He made the remarks while declaring the 9th Summit of Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) closed at the BICC in the city.
“With the universal recognition of migration as an enabler, with its inevitability and its multi-dimensional nature, we’ve repeatedly heard a ‘call for action’,” the Foreign Minister said, adding that over the past days, they heard new promises as well as challenges of migration and mobility in the contemporary world.
“One of the important events that we had during this GFMD is the business-government-civil society dialogue,” Minister Ali said, adding that this has completed the migratory circle.
He said they believe that governments, civil society, business will act in the true spirit of partnership to implement the Sustainable Development Goals relating to migration.
The minister said they have been enriched by so much of experience sharing, reflections and ideas over the first two days at the Civil Society Days and to the next three days of government-level discussion.
He pledged that they would continue to work and support during the joint chairmanship of Germany and Morocco who will take over charge as GFMD chair on January 1.
