Dhaka to have sweltering hot weather for some more days

Dhaka, May 9 – The people would not get relief from the summer hot spell as the ongoing condition is likely to continue in the next three to four days across Bangladesh, said the met office.
The highest temperature recorded was 39.5 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi division, while the temperature in Dhaka was recorded 35.6 degree Celsius at around 12 pm yesterday, the Met office said.
Rahul Kuddus, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told The Independent that a heat-wave is sweeping over the country and this condition is likely to continue till May 12 to May 13. After that people may experience light rains.
“The heat wave will increase further to 40 degree Celsius over the country,” he said.
However, the city dwellers are feeling suffocated because of the heat wave. Lower-middle class and middle-class people are suffering the most. Rickshaw-pullers and CNG-drivers are having a field day as they have been charging extra money for offering their services under a blazing sun.
Passengers of local buses going to the city from different parts were desperate for a breath of fresh air. The high humidity level made conditions unbearable. There was not a drop of rain till yesterday.
A Dhaka resident, Iqbal Hossain, told The Independent that it was very difficult to continue daily work during the month of Ramadan because of the unbearable hot weather.
The Met office forecast in its bulletin yesterday (Thursday) that rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. The weather may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy sky
elsewhere over the country.
A mild to a moderate hot spell is sweeping over Khulna division and the regions of Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalgonj, Rajshahi, Pabna and Naogaon and it may continue. Day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.
The Met office recorded the country’s highest rainfall in Netrokona in the last 24 hours- 33mm as of 6 am on Thursday.
The wind speed at Dhaka was expected to be Southwest/Westerly (08-12) kph. The sun sets at 6:31 pm today and rises at 5:19 tomorrow in the capital. – Staff Reporter
