Speakers in a discussion meeting said, the Hijras should be educated and provided with jobs so that they can be taken into the mainstream.The speakers added that the Hijras should also be made aware of HIV/AIDS and their sexual behaviour should be changed.They said these in a meeting on ‘Expanding HIV Prevention in Bangladesh’ held at the conference room of the drop in centre (DIC) of non-government organization Light House at Balubagan in Chapainawabganj town on Saturday.Organized by the DIC of Light House, the meeting was held with Maolana Sadrul Islam in the chair. It was addressed, among others, by sanitary inspector of Chapainawabganj municipality Zahir Uddin as chief guest, Chapainawabganj district EPI superintendent of the Health Department Amirul Islam Jibon, manager of the DIC Akram Ullah and councilor Runa Parveen Dalia.It was also disclosed in the meeting that Light House has been creating awareness about HIV/AIDS among the Hijras of Chapainawabganj district through a drop in centre under ‘Expanding HIV Prevention in Bangladesh’ project. -Our Correspondent
