According to a press report, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has sent a Demi-Official Letter (DO) to several government secretaries to form a separate pay scale for public university teachers. The DO has been sent following a demand of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association (FBUTA) in this connection. The teachers also demanded the government set up appropriate grades for professors on ‘Warrant of Precedence’.While sincerely appreciating the move taken by the Education Minister, we hope that the DO will yield a fruitful result. In fact, in many of our neighboring countries, public university teachers enjoy special pay and status.
