Do not harass BNP leaders: HC

The High Court has issued an order, restraining the authorities from taking arbitrary action against five top BNP leaders, including Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed.
They court has said they cannot be arrested in new cases without taking recourse to proper legal procedures or harassed in any manner.
The bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Habibul Gani gave the order on Sunday on a plea by the families of the BNP leaders.
Other four other leaders are BNP’s Standing Committee members Rafiqul Islam Mia and MK Anowar, BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s special aide Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas and former MP Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bokul.
Defence lawyer AJ Mohammad said the five leaders had been detained in various cases filed in connection with the 18-Party alliance’s violent agitations.
Their families had moved court fearing they could be implicated in other cases and arrested.
Moudud, Anowar, Mia, and Biswas were arrested on Nov 8, while former MP Bokul was held from in front of the BNP chief’s residence on Dec 25.-bdnews24.com
