Don’t confuse people on Khaleda’s Satkhira remarks: BNP

The BNP on Wednesday said that Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam spread falsehood over BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s remarks on joint forces operation in Satkhira and brushed aside the claim to call the same treasonable.
“There’s nothing seditious in the remarks of Desh Netri Khaleda Zia. This doesn’t suit the stature of a leader like Syed Ashraf to confuse people by making such a false comment,” said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Ashraf Islam, the LGRD Minister, at a press conference at the party president’s Dhanmondi political office on Tuesday urged BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to apologise to the nation in 24 hours for her remarks over the operation by joint forces in Satkhira.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, in her first address in a public rally at city’s Suhrawardy Udyan after the 10th parliamentary polls, on Monday said there are doubts in public minds as to who are involved in the joint forces’ operation in Satkhira.
Reacting to his AL counterpart’s remarks, Fakhrul said, “I’m not sure in which state and under which influence he made the remarks. But his comments were indecent and he resorted to falsehood.”
As his attention was drawn to the AL spokesman’s remarks that they will take action if Khaleda does not apologise, Fakhrul said, “What the government is doing now are completely illogical as there’s no democracy and the rule of law in the county. They’re harassing our senior leaders by arresting and filing false cases against them.”
He also alleged that a Baksal-like one-party-rule is prevailing in the country where dead bodies are found here and there regularly, and opposition leaders and activists are being killed and oppressed like Rakhkhi Bahini had done.”
The BNP leader also alleged that the government is controlling all the state machinery and bodies, including the judiciary and the administration undemocratically.
He urged the government to establish the rule of law and restore democracy in the country shunning the repressive acts. “Allow the country’s all institutions to run independently.” – UNB
