Dr Kamal demands judicial probe into Moulvibazar crash

Dhaka, Jun 24 (UNB) – Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Monday demanded a judicial investigation into Upaban Express train crash in Moulvibazar’s Kulaura upazila to unearth the main reason behind it.

In a statement, Dr Kamal and his party general secretary Reza Kibria also demanded the government ensure adequate compensation to the relatives of those killed and injured.

They said the judicial investigation is necessary for taking necessary steps to avert the recurrence of such accident.

The accident took place when six coaches of Dhaka-bound ‘Upaban Express’ from Sylhet veered off the tracks around 11:40pm on Sunday after a culvert over the Barochhara Canal broke down, leaving five people dead and 200 other injured.

Two of the coaches fell into the canal and one of them overturned.

The Gonoforum leaders prayed for salvation of the departed soul of those killed in the train crash, and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

They also wished early recovery of the injured.
