Dr kamal sees change in 2014

Noted jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, president of Gono Forum Saturday expressed hope that the country would be free from the current political crisis through change in 2014.

“The nation does have 12 more months in hand to search good personalities to lead the country. They have to start working right now for searching their future leaders,” he said.

The senior lawyer of the Supreme Court came up with the observation while addressing a dialogue on ‘Democracy and Current Politics.’

The dialogue was organized by banglanews, a leading online news portal of the country, held at Conference Hall of East West Media House in city’s Bashundhara Residential Area on Saturday.

The constitution expert said, “The people want to make change and they will not want to see many of the leaders, including prime minister in power after 2014.”

He also observed that the prime minister has to realize that she is a “nurturer of democracy, nurturer of the people”. “If she does not realize it, we have to take responsibly to make her realize,” he said.

Dr Kamal also observed that the public opinion has to be built by campaigning door to door again like before liberation war if necessary.

The Gono Forum president said, “Young people did not tolerate the illogical attitude of rulers of West Pakistan. So, they fought for the country.

He added: “You should not tolerate any illogical behavior by country’s government and others. You have to protest against any kind of misrule.”

Regarding the caretaker government, he said, “The Supreme Court has kept provision to hold general election for next two terms under caretaker government and also gave directives to implement it.”

But, avoiding the SC directives, the government scrapped constitutional system, which was not acceptable, Dr Kamal opined.
