‘Drug peddler’ killed in Pabna gunfight

Dhaka – An alleged drug peddler was killed and five policemen were injured early Saturday in a gunfight between a gang of drug peddlers and law enforcers at Pakshi of Ishwardi in the district.The dead is identified as Alia Bhulo, 40, a top drug trader and a resident of Fateh Mohammadpur Biharibazar area in Ishwardi, said assistant police superintendent Jahurul Haque.“A group of drug paddlers were passing EPZ road in Pakshi riding on three motorcycles around 2:00 am. When they reached check post, police gave signal to stop. Defying the signal, the drug paddlers hurled cocktails and fired gunshots upon law enforcers that prompt the police to retaliate, triggering the gunfight,” said the police official.Bhulo then sustained bullet injuries. However, his accomplices managed to flee the scene.Later around 4:00 am, Bhulo succumbed to his injuries at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex, he said.Police also recovered a revolver, three rounds of bullets and a motorcycle from the spot, he added.UNB news agency
