DU female student kidnapping case: 4 asked to surrender

Dhaka, Feb 5 – The High Court on Monday asked four people to surrender before the trial court by Wednesday in a case filed for attempting to kidnap a female student of Dhaka University.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order rejecting their bail petitions seeking interim bail in the case.
The accused are Tafiuzzaman Jewel, former president of Hatibandha upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhtra League in Lalmonirhat, Omar Faruque alias Manik, Mohammad Rana and Mohammad Ferdous.
Advocate Hasanuzzaman Ujjal and Shamima Nasrin stood for the accused while assistant attorney general Yusuf Mahmud Morshed represented the state.
On January 2, the accused tried to kidnap the victim, a student of Institute of Social Welfare and Research, from Doani Teesta Barrage area in Hatibandha upazila as she turned down Jewel’s marriage proposal.
The victim’s mother filed a case against five people with Hatibandha Police Station on January 4 over the incident.
After the filing of the case, police arrested Zahurul, a microbus driver.
The other accused surrendered before the High Court today and sought bail. – UNB
