DU pro-BNP teachers demand Khaleda’s release

Pro-BNP teachers of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla on the campus demanding release of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail and her admission to a specialised hospital for better treatment.

Around 65 teachers under the banner of “White Panel teachers of Dhaka University” took part in the programme that began at 12 noon and continued till 1 pm.

Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, convener of DU white panel teachers said, “We are concerned over the health condition of Khaleda Zia. She is a former prime Minister and physically weak aged women. As an elderly and renowned citizen of the country she does not get any facilities in jail.”

“When a sick woman has to be taken to hospital for taking rest, then government has sent her to the court. It’s a gross violation of human rights. People must give a befitting reply to such inhumane conduct against nationalist parties and leaders including Khaleda Zia in the upcoming polls,” he said.

Former president of DU Teachers’ Association Prof Sadrul Amin demanded the release of Khaleda Zia and said, “The government imprisoned her in a false case. Even it didn’t provide minimum fundamental rights to Khaleda Zia and it is totally inhuman,”

“We hope the government will release her soon and take steps to admit Khaleda Zia to any specialised hospital,” he added.

DU white panel joint convener, Prof Lutfur Rahman and Prof Morshed Hasan Khan, DU white panel former convener Prof Akhter Hossain Khan, Prof Siddiqur Rahman Khan, Prof Md Abdur Rashid among others attended the human chain.
