Election Commission (EC) decided to deploy Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel as ‘Striking Reserve Force’ in the upcoming four city corporation elections.Sources said it seems that the querulous situation between the two main political parties motivated EC to adopt the decision.
Besides, EC is apprehending clashing situation as Hefajat-e-Islam has supported the candidates of BNP-led 18 parties.
Over telephone, Election Commissioner Mohammad Shah Newaz told banglanews, “In a meeting on May 30, we decided to use all Forces to keep the situation of election period under control.”
Existing situation forced us to take such decision, not any demand, he added.
Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna and Barisal city corporation elections would be held on June 15. (Source: banglanews24.com)
