Eight injured in Cox’s Bazar BCL-Shibir clash

At least eight people were injured in a clash between the activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in the district town on Thursday night
The clash took place after Shibir activists allegedly slashed the tendon and a portion of the nose of a local BCL leader.
The injured BCL leader was identified as Rajibul Islam Mustak, 20, joint secretary of Cox’s Bazar Gov College unit and a third year student of political science department.Ishtiaque Ahmed Joy, president of district BCL, said Shibir activists attacked Mustak and slashed his tendon and nose, hit him in the head with hammer at Hospital Road near the district Jamaat office.
Later, locals took the injured to Sadar Hospital where doctors referred him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Following the incident, BCL activists set fire to the district Jamaat office and vandalised the Hospital Road branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd.
As Shibir activists tried to resist the attackers, a clash broke out which left eight people injured from both the sides.
Officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station Md Aslam Hossain said police went to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Contacted, BCL denied the allegation of launching attack on the Jamaat office and Islami Bank.- UNB
