Eight injured, one missing after cargo and Charmonai Mahfil bound trawler collided on Kirtankhola

Eight injured and one remained missing after unidentified cargo and Charmonai Mahfil bound trawler collided on Kirtankhola on Monday night.The fishing trawler FB Nurul was carrying more than 50 passengers from Dakkhin Sakuchia Janata Bazaar of Monpura upazila under Bhola district to Charmonai Darbar Sharif under Barisal Sadar upazila for attending annual Mahfil (Islamic religious congressing), said Kawsar Hossain from Charmonai on Tuesday morning.
Alauddin, one of the eight injured passengers of the trawler, said they boarded on the reserved trawler FB Nurul from Janata Bazaar of Monpura to attend the Mahfil on Monday morning. When their carrier trawler reached about one kilometer far from Charmonai at about 8:00 PM Monday night, the vessel collided with an unidentified cargo on Kirtankhola River and their trawler damaged heavily. At least eight passengers were injured by that hit and five passengers of the trawler fell on river, he said.Injured passengers were treated at the medical camp of the Mahfil. Local fishermen and fellow passengers rescued four out of five passengers fell on river, but one identified as Abul Bashar from Dakkhin Sakuchia remained missing till this report, Kawsar Hossain from Charmonai said.
Waliullah Kazal, chairman of Dakkhin Sakuchia union parshad of Monpura, also acknowledging the facts said they searching to rescue missing Bashar.Abul Bashar Majumdar, deputy director (river safety and traffic), they yet not informed about the incident. Passenger carrying on fishing boat and plying cargo on river at night were not legal and will investigate the matter.Sub Inspector Abul Kalam Azad, in charge of the police camp opened at the Mahfil area, said they also not informed about the incident.Three-day annual Mahfil at Charmonai Darbar Sharif starts after Zohr prayer on Tuesday.
