Dhaka – The month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair, the largest literary event of the country, ended is going to end today as a result thousands of booklovers thronged the Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan premises on Monday to seize the last opportunity to collect books of their choices.
The visitors started standing in long queues from the Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) and Curzon Hall on the Dhaka University (DU) campus on Monday afternoon.
Book lovers were seen moving from stall to stall at the fair in searching their favorite books which have not bought yet.
Visitors were passing a busy time in with the stall attendants in choosing and buying books and most of them holding more than one bag, full of books in their hands when they were leaving the fair ground.
Shamima Yeasmin Suma a student of DU Political Science department who were seen in a hurry to buy books of her favorite writers told the independent ‘ I used to visiting the fair most of the days this year and now feeling bad as it will end tomorrow (today) and we have to wait for the next year’.
‘Like other book lovers I also love and enjoy the fair will eagerly wait for the next one’ she added.
Konika Ahmed who came at the fair from Mohammadpur in the capital said that ‘ Today I have come to fulfill my target of buying favorite titles as the great fair is ending Tuesday’.
Publishers and readers expressed satisfaction over the day’s turnover and the peaceful completion of the fair this year.
Besides, commemorating the famous writer late Humayun Azad a discussion meeting was arranged by the joint collaboration of Writers, readers and publishers at the book fair yester where bangle academy director Shamsuzzaman Khan presented the key speech.
The publisher of the Agamee publication Osman Goni with preside over the meeting to be conducted by poet Aslam Suny among others mazharul Islam, Suvasshingho Roy were delivered speech
However, 40 books were unveiled at the fair yesterday and a total of 155 new books hit the fair containing 16 story books, 25 novels, and 47 poetry books.
On Turesday the fair gate will open at 11am and will remain open till 8.30 pm. On the other hand the bangla academy authority is scheduled to arrange elaborate programmes marking the ending ceremony of the fair.
The main programme will be held at the main stage of the academy where cultural minister Assaduzzaman Nur is expected as a chief guest and Shamsuzzaman Khan will deliver a welcome speech.
