Electronic salary transfer system to protect wage in Bahrain

Manama: An electronic salary transfer system will be launched in May to ensure the wages of private sector employees are protected.
The salary protection scheme was unveiled yesterday as His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting. His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, attended.
The step, which puts an end to cash payments of salaries, was recommended by the government executive committee chaired by the Crown Prince, said Cabinet secretary general Dr Yasser Al Nasser.
The new system makes it mandatory for businessmen owning private companies to transfer their workers’ salaries through banks.
The phased system will be implemented gradually, taking into account the size of private companies.
The initiative will be co-ordinated with the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
All private sector companies will be fully monitored by May next year, under the new system which also covers domestic workers.
“The aim is to keep record of salary disbursement, ensure private sector workers are paid on time and reduce employer-employee disputes due to unpaid wages”. – mfa
