Ensure voting right, taking unity to villages: Dr. Kamal

Dhaka, Nov – Gonoforum President Dr Kamal Hossain on Friday urged the ruling Awami League to create a “true” level playing field for “all the political parties” for the upcoming election.“You promise us a fair election process,” said Dr Kamal referring what Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the leaders of Jatyio Oikya Front on the Thursday dialogue at Ganabhaban, “Please keep your word and don’t make it a farcical election.”
Dr Kamal was speaking as the chief guest at a program organized by Gonoforum in its party office at Arambagh to commemorate the jail killing day on November 3.
The octogenarian lawyer-politician also said a lot “is possible if a proper discussion is held.” He, however, refrained from making definitively comment on whether the much-anticipated dialogue was a ‘success or not’ from the point of view of the Jatyio Oikya Front.
“We had our demands and we placed it. There was a long talk and I am not saying that the talk is over,” said Dr Kamal.
Referring the commitment and sacrifice of the leaders—Syed Nazrul Islam, acting president of Bangladesh government in exile in 1971, Tajuddin Ahmed, prime minister, M Mansur Ali, finance minister, and AHM Qamaruzzaman, minister for home affairs, relief and rehabilitation, of the same cabinet—who were assassinated in Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975—Dr Kamal said, the democracy in Bangladesh is established after a long history of bloodbath.
“Please ensure the voting right of people,” he said to the Prime Minister without mentioning her.
He said a national unity has been formed with demands for a fair election, rule of law and democracy.” He urged all to spread this unity to districts, Upazilas and villages across the country.
Dr Kamal said the alliance would continue its movement till its demands and visions were met and agreed upon by the government. – Staff Reporter
