Ershad for all-party concention to end political crisis

Jatiya Party Chairman H M Ershad has proposed an all-party convention to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the country.
“Let’s call a convention. Let’s discuss how peace can be established in the country,” he said at a rally at Kakrail in Dhaka on Saturday.
Former military dictator Ershad had been ousted from power through a movement led by Awami League and BNP in 1990.“Discard the violent politics of these two parties. We do not want such politics. We want peace, not terrorism or confrontation,” Ershad said.
He slated BNP for continuing transport blockade during Bishwa Ijtema. “You (BNP) identify yourselves as Muslims. But what kind of Muslim you proved yourself to be by calling a blockade during Bishwa Ijtema. What kind of politics is this?”
He lambasted the government, too, for its ‘failure’ to safeguard people.
“I relinquished the power for the sake of peace 24 years ago. I gave up the power because I did not want confrontation or bloodletting. Now what are you showing us?”
He urged the people to stop supporting Awami League and BNP and back his party.
“We want a country free from BNP-Awami League. Bring Jatiya Party to the power for the sake of peace,” Ershad said. – bdnews24.com
