Dhaka, Jan 14 – Jatiya Party Chairman and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament HM Ershad is again going to Singapore soon for receiving treatment for his various ailments, including knee pain and liver complications. Talking to journalists on Monday night, party senior leaders said Ershad will leave the capital for Singapore once he gets doctor’s appointment.
“Our chairman’s health condition is not good as he is suffering from various diseases. He’ll go to Singapore again very soon for treatment, said Ershad’s younger brother and Jatiya Party cochairman GM Quader.
He said Ershad has a plan to go to Singapore on January 18, but it is not confirmed as they still did not get doctor’s appointment.
Jatiya Party Presidium member Faisal Chisti said Ershad is suffering from multiple health complications, but the liver problem is the serious one. “Sir’s also suffering from acute knee pain. He will go to Singapore once doctor’s appointment is ensured.”
On December 10 last, Ershad had gone to Singapore for receiving treatment and returned home on December 26, just three days before the national election.
Ershad was elected MP from Rangpur-3 seat though he could not carry out any election campaign.
In a statement on January 4, Ershad said his party will be the main opposition in the 11th parliament while he will act as the Leader of the Opposition.
He also made GM Quader deputy opposition leader of the House.
In another statement, Ershad said GM Quader will be the chairman of the party in absence his absence.
Jatiya Party which joined the election as the key partner of the Grand Alliance bagged 22 seats. – UNB
