Ershad seeks law for EC formation

Jatiya party chairman HM Ershad on Saturday stressed the need for formulating a law for formation of the Election Commission so that no one can raise question over the EC.“There’s no law in the country for formation of the Election Commission. As there’s no law, we want a free and independent Election Commission to be formed through discussion with all political parties,” he said while talking to local journalists at the circuit house.
Ershad, also a PM’s special envoy, said a delegation of Jatiya Party will meet the President and place the party’s proposal for the constitution of the EC on December 20.
Ershad called upon the party leaders and activists to work together ahead of the next parliamentary election saying that the party will put candidates from 300 seats.
He also hoped that the Jatiya Party would do better in the next parliamentary election.
State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, lawmaker Shahanara Begum, party’s secretary general Ruhul Amin Hawlader and district convener Mofazzal Hossain were, among others, present.
