EVMs for Dhaka-6, 13, Ctg-9, Rangpur-3, Khulna-2, Satkhira-2

Electronic voting machines will be used in Dhaka-6 and 13, Chattogram-9, Rangpur-3, Khulna-2 and Satkhira-2 constituencies in the forthcoming general election as picked by the Election Commission.

The Commission chose the six parliamentary seats, out of 48, around 5pm on Monday through an open lottery in presence of journalists.

The six constituencies were selected randomly under five categories. One each was picked from Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation and Chattogram City Corporation, while two from other city corporation areas and one is from other district sadar areas.

Of the six constituencies, Dhaka-6 was picked from seven constituencies under DSCC, while Dhaka-13 from seven constituencies under DNCC, Rangpur-3 and Khulna-2 from 10 constituencies under other city areas, and one from 21 constituencies located in other district sadar areas.

Speaking on the occasion, EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed said the Election Commission has full preparation to use EVMs in the six constituencies.He, however, said the Commission will get adequate number of EVMs by November 30. “We’ll get the EVMs as per the demand,” he added.EC officials said the EC will get some 120,000 EVMs in hand by November 30.

On Saturday, the EC decided to use EVMs in all the polling stations of the six constituencies located in city and district sadar areas during the 11th parliamentary elections slated for December 30.However, BNP even on Monday placed a demand before the Commission that it must refrain from using EVMs in the general election.
