Ex JCD leader shot, held for bomb attack on bus in 2004

Police arrested an accused in a case filed for the bomb attack on a bus near Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in the city’s Paribagh area during hartal enforced by BNP-led alliance on January 3 in 2004.
The arrestee was identified as Robiul Islam Nayan, a former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader of Mohammadput Thana in the city. He was also second-in-command of fugitive listed ‘top terror’ Suvrata Baine, said Officr-in-charge of Ramna police station Moshiur Rahman.Tipped off, a team of Ramna thana police launched a drive in a room of ‘Hotel Boikali’ in Moghbazar around 12:30pm, deputy commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Montasirul Islam said.
Sensing the presence of law enforces, Robiul, police said, tried to open fire on the police team forcing the law enforcers to fire back that left Robiul injured.
The police team, they said, also recovered a pistol and five bullets from the spot.
He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) under police custody, the police officer said.
Contacted, Ramna Police Station OC Moshiur Rahman said Nayan was earlier arrested in connection with a patrol bomb attack case filed with Ramna police station. Later, he was released from jail after securing bail from the High Court, he added.
He was also wanted by police in a number of cases, filed with  Kalabagan police station in the capital, while Mohammadpur thana police in Magura district, the OC said.
Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb on a bus near Ruposhi Bangla Hotel in Paribagh around 7am on January 3 in 2014 while it was heading towards Farmgate, leaving three persons, including a woman passenger, injured.
On January 9, two victims died at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. – Staff Reporter
