Ex-Minister, 7 ex-MPs mourned in Parliament

Parliament on Sunday unanimously adopted a condolence motion expressing profound grief at the death of a former minister, seven former MPs.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion in the House at the beginning of the 20th session of the current Parliament.

Those who died are former minister M Matiur Rahman, former MPs Aman Ullah Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu, Abdur Rab Chowdhury, M Mojahar Ali Pradhan, AKM Khairuzzaman and Khandaker Mofizur Rahman.

The House also adopted the condolence motion at the death of former caretaker government adviser Dhiraj Kumar Nath, freedom fighter and sculptor Ferdousi Priyobhashini, mother of Roads and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader- Fazilatulnesa, mother of Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal- Begum Sayera Khatun and close companion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and accused in Agartala ‘conspiracy’ case and founding general secretary of Chittagong city Dr Sayadur Rahman.

The house also expressed deep shock at the death of eminent litterateur Shawkat Ali, language movement hero Gazi Shahidullah, gallantry award winner freedom fighter Kakon Bibi, pro-vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr ASM Zakaria Swapan and popular singer Shammi Akhtar.

Parliament also expressed shock for those who died in plane crash in Nepal and army personnel deployed in UN Peacekeeping force in Mali.

A munajat seeking eternal peace of the departed souls was offered in the House. Faridul Huq Khan conducted the munajat.

The members of the House also stood up and observed a one-minute solemn silence to pay respect to the memories of the deceased.
