Export earnings from fruits, vegetable items mark rise

The country’s export earnings from vegetable and fruits over the first 11 months of the current fiscal have increased by 42 and 35 percents respectively compared to the previous fiscal, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).EPB statistics show that the export earning from vegetable reached US$ 9,64,67,775.16 as of May this fiscal, while it was US$ 6,77,13,152.87 until May in the previous fiscal.
The export earning from fruit items stood at US$ 7,00,59,350.72 as of May this fiscal compared to that of US$ 5,15,48,342.12 till May in the previous fiscal, it added.
According to officials at Hortex Foundation, the country’s export of vegetable and fruits between the fiscals 2004-5 and 2010-11 experienced a 60 percent growth in terms of volume and a 46 percent growth in terms of the value. (Source: UNB)
