BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday called for national unity in carrying out movement to restore the democracy.He made the call while addressing a doa and milad mahfil at BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the city.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student front of the BNP, organised the prayer seeking early recovery of party chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is now staying in London for medical treatment.
The JCD also organised similar programme at city, university and upazila levels across the country.
Mirza Fakhrul alleged that all the rights of the people were taken away gradually.
He claimed that not only BNP leaders and activists, many people were subjected to repression leaving many of them maimed; many were killed and poured in prisons in the recent past.
“In this circumstance, a national unity is needed side by side consolidating the unity among the party leaders and activists to restore the democracy,” he added.
The BNP leader said no democratic movement in the country had ever failed despite many obstacles.
He hoped that pro-democratic people would restore the democracy defying all modes of repression and oppression.
Fakhrul hoped that Khaleda Zia would return home soon after completion of her treatment.
The former premier went to London on September 16 for her medical check up and eyes treatment.
BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman, Fazlul Haque Milon, Juba Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and Monirul Haque Chowdhury, among others, were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, newly elected committee of Rangamati district BNP yesterday met the party secretary general at Naya Paltan office.
District president Shah Alam and general secretary Dipen Talukder led the delegation.
