Dhaka– Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the teenage boy Rajon murder case, will bring back to Dhaka from Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
A 3-member police team led by additional police super of the Police Headquarters (PHQ) Mahbubul Karim had left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on early Monday. Other two members are additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Rahmat Ullah and its senior assistant commissioner AFM Nizam Uddin.
Sources at the police headquarters said as there is no ‘repatriation of prisoners’ agreement with Saudi Arabia, absconding accused Kamrul has been bringing back to Dhaka through Interpol.
The 3-member police along with Kamrul is scheduled to landed at Dhaka by a flight of Bangladesh Biman Airlines at around 3:30 pm on Thursday.
The National Central Bureau (NCB) of Police Headquarters on July 21 issued a red notice against absconding Kamrul through Interpol after getting confirmation that he was arrested in Riyadh.
Earlier, the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Police Headquarters so far brought back 9 absconding accused through Interpol from various countries.
On July 8, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident, which went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which triggered a widespread outcry.
Ten people were arrested in connection with the gruesome murder and eight of them made their ‘confessional’ statements separately to their involvement in the incident of Rajon murder.
Later, the Investigation officer of the case submitted charge sheet accusing 13 people, including absconding Kamrul, on August 16 before the court in Sylhet.
Other accused are Muhit Alam, 32, Shamim Alam, 20, Pavel Islam, 18, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, Moyna Mia, 45, Nur Ahmed alias Nuru Mia, 20, Dulal Ahmed, 30, Ayaz Ali, 45, Taz Uddin Badal, 28, Firoz Mia, 50, Asmat Ali, 42, and Ruhul Amin, 25.
The three fugitive accused are Quamrul Islam, his brother Shamim Ahmed and Pavel.
Quamrul Islam, 24, brother of main accused Muhit Alam, fled to Saudi Arabia after the incident where he was held by local Bangladeshis and then handed over to Jeddah police.
The Saudi Interior Ministry earlier approved the extradition of Quamrul to Bangladesh.
