Fakhrul’s remand for third time challenged in HC

A writ petition was filed to the High Court on Thursday challenging the validity of the lower court order that had placed BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on a five-day remand for the third time in a case under the Explosive Substances Act filed with Motijheel Police Station.
Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, the counsel for Fakhrul, told reporters that the writ petition is likely to be taken up for hearing on Sunday (Feb 8) before the HC division bench, comprising Justice M Emdadul Huq and Justice M Khurshid Alam Sarkar.

On Feb 3, upon a plea of Detective Branch of Police Sub-Inspector, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, Metropolitan Magistrate allowed a five-day remand instead of 10-days as proposed, rejecting the bail plea of the accused.
Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Officer-in-Charge of Motijheel Police Station and the IO of the case have been made respondents to the petition. – UNB
