Female police contingent leaves for DR Congo on rotation

Dhaka, May 28 (UNB) – A female contingent of Bangladesh Formed Police Unit-1 comprising 180 members left Dhaka on Monday night to join the UN peacekeeping mission in DR Congo.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Salma Sayed Poly is leading the contingent, said Assistant Inspector General (Media) of Police Headquarters Md Sohel Rana.

Senior officials of Police Headquarters saw the peacekeepers off at Dhaka airport, he said.

Female members of Bangladesh Police started serving in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Haiti in 2010. Apart from performing their duties, they provided humanitarian assistance in earthquake-hit Haiti, which was widely praised.
